Boulder head
Before trenching operations can start, a boulder clearing campaign can be required to avoid boulders ending on top of the product in the trench. Most of the time, this job will be executed by a plow and pulling vessel.
Boulder clearing with a TSHD instead of a plow-spread gives some important advantages:
-
higher working speed
-
higher flexibility in deployment
-
no extra mobilisation in case of trenching with the same TSHD
Design
The boulder head consists of a large plow-shaped structure that is connected to the dredgepipe by a fixed part. The plow has an inclination to one side, so that the boulders are pushed to one side. By sailing multiple passes in opposite direction, a corridor of any width can be achieved by the TSHD.
Anti-clogging elements are provided for the plow when working in sticky soil types.
