Innovative dredging tools

Over the years, dredgers have become more productive as a result of improved design, increased power and size and the use of electronics. Though, the concept of the excavation tools and methods didn't change that much. As a result, the dredgers of today still encounter the same limits in difficult soil types.

Even if the excavation tool of a dredger is small compared to the size of the dredger, it is a very important factor determining the production the dredger can achieve in a particular soil type. Todays' dredging jobs are becoming more challenging than before: dredging in difficult soil types, strict environmental limitations, high accuracy, requirement of highest production per kW of power used etc... Therefore, the use of a specific excavation tool design that fits the job will have an important impact on the production rate of the dredger.

The goal of Innovate2Dredge is to design excavation tools to increase production rates in various circumstances. The focus is on dragheads (for TSHD's) and cutting heads (for CSD's), but this can be done for any equipment that needs to excavate soil under water. This includes: crawlers, trenchers, grab dredgers, plows and more.

The design of custom built tools can be done in different levels. This goes from designing elements that can be fitted into existing excavation tools, over replacing part of the excavation tool by a new innovative part to the design of a complete new excavation tool that will fit the job.

On this page, you can see an overview of the conditions where Innovate2Dredge has concepts ready that will increase production rates and/or push the limits of what can be dredged by a specific dredger.
