Hard rock trenching head

Trenching narrow trenches with a TSHD is challenging but with the trenching head this has become possible. Even in hard cohesive soils.

Dredging of hard rock with a TSHD is very challenging too but with the rock draghead, this is possible.

Trenching in hard rock is even more challenging as it is not simply combining the rock and trenching head into one head. Problems encountered with the trenching head are accentuated when trenching in hard rock and problems encountered when dredging rock are accentuated when trenching. This makes the design of a rock trenching head very difficult.

A rock trenching head will be a valid alternative when a rock trenching job can not be executed by a cutter dredger or when the cost would be too high. The reason for this is that a TSHD can dredge deeper and has a higher workabilty in swell.

Based on the experience of trenching and rock dredging, a concept for a rock trenching head has been made.
